Les Mills have been pushing the limits of athletic performance and recording for years but they had continued to face audio issues with every available microphone they tried. When recording live fitness events, it is imperative to Les Mills that the presenters’ microphones continue to capture crisp clear audio no matter the situational demands. Les Mills contacted Procreate to assist with creating the perfect microphone headset for their unique needs.
The design incorporates a stripped back existing microphone that was proven to deliver the quality and value required but continued to present issues when used in the high intensity fitness setting. Our headset design directly responds to concerns the producers were experiencing with their audio. After a trial period, procreate was able to address the following concerns with the creation of a bespoke headset. The headset can comfortably fit a range of head sizes while also remaining in place during dynamic workouts. The microphone was modelled to stay in place to avoid moving away from its ideal position, preventing the audio quality to suffer. The headset design also maintained a subtle and compact look while being adjustable and secure. A drip ring was added to prevent sweat from reaching the microphone, greatly reducing the number of damaged units.
Procreate also generated a fitting guide to accompany the headset which helped to ensure a snug but comfortable fit could easily be achieved.
The Les Mills team provided valuable feedback from test sessions and ergonomic data from a spread of their athletes.
